About the PTA

PTA's mission is to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.

Administrative factors also set PTA apart from other parent groups. PTA offers a national and state infrastructure, with staff and trained volunteer leaders available to assist PTAs in securing nonprofit status, filing government paperwork, creating bylaws, purchasing low-cost insurance and training leaders. These support services are included in PTA membership at no additional cost.

School PTAs have access to experts, resources, trainings and dozens of programs and initiatives to encourage arts education, healthy lifestyles and family reading.

When a school has a PTA, parents are better informed and more engaged, and the learning environment is more supportive for students—plus, the school has a better reputation in its community.

Join our school PTA today!

Every person who joins a local PTA automatically becomes a member of both the state and national PTA.

Class Parents

Thank you for being (or considering being) a Class Parent!

Your role is an important one that supports communication between your teacher and parents. You get to plan the fun in the classroom and have a hand in teacher appreciation activities.

The PTA offers various resources to help make the job easier and less time consuming. Check out files and resources on our Google drive.

Here are some of the Class Parent’s responsibilities to be aware of:

  1. Support the teacher - Most important part of the job! Chat in person, over email or schedule a call with your teacher to find out how he/she wants to be supported. That will give you an overview for the year.
  2. Send a welcome/Introduction letter to the parents in the class - Once you meet with the teacher, you will have an idea of what this letter will say. We have sample welcome letters for you.
  3. Plan class parties - For every grade, Valentines Day and Year End parties are scheduled by the school (see calendar). Other events are at the teacher’s discretion. Coordinate/brainstorm with the other Class Parents in your grade. You can all do the exact same party! Kids and teachers will both be thrilled!
  4. Organize teacher gifts - Completely optional! If you don’t organize a class gift, many families will do their own gift, so the teacher will be covered. If you decide to organize a collection, you can ask for donations all at once, or send an email closer to each event. Either way, giving parents notice is good. Mid-year and year-end gifts are typical. You could also do a birthday gift.
  5. Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week - This is a PTA-sponsored event in May, and daily activities are planned by the PTA. All you need to do is remind your class parents to support the PTA activities by making donations (snacks, gift cards) and participate (have your child write letters to teachers/staff).
