Stinger Run Club Training Plan
- Run the prescribed intervals 2-3x per week on whatever days work best for your schedule. Do a warm up walk for 5 minutes at the beginning of your runs and a 5 minute cool down walk at the end.
- Don’t stress out about running the entire 5K; if you find an interval you like, use it for the entire 3.1 miles! If you decide to stick with shorter run/walk intervals, keep adding sets until you are running for approximately 35-40 minutes. Real runners DO take walk breaks!
- You can program intervals onto your phone using an interval timer app, there are lots of free options.

Afterschool Enrichment
The Stenwood PTA is pleased to offer an after school Enrichment Program for our students. The PTA liaises between the school and a third-party provider to secure the class schedule and space.
Baroody Camps will continue to partner with the Stenwood PTA to bring our school a variety of quality after school enrichment programming for the 2023-24 school year. They handle the administrative duties, including registration, materials and staffing.
The after school enrichment programming is open to all Stenwood students. All programs are at the school and run from 3:25 - 4:25 pm on days school is in session. At the end of the school day, enrolled students will go straight to their enrichment program. At 4:25 pm, students will be dismissed for pickup or to walk, and SACC students will be escorted to their program. Please note that transportation is not provided by the school.
If you would like additional information or have questions about registration, a class, or a provider, please contact info@enrichmentmatters.com. Once a class begins, your main point of contact will be your Class provider/Instructor.
This information is neither sponsored nor endorsed by the Fairfax County School Board, the Superintendent, or this school.
Registration announcements are sent on the PTA Wednesday Mail.
Reflections Art: “Accepting Imperfection”
Explore this year’s National PTA Reflections theme by having your student submit their own original artistic interpretation! Students can enter this National PTA arts program by submitting their original work of art in one of the following categories: film production, music composition, visual arts, dance choreography, literature, or photography.
Entries may then advance from the local PTA level up through district/region/council and state PTA competitions to the national level for awards and recognition opportunities. Student entries are judged in different divisions based on their grade: primary (PreK-2), intermediate (3-5), and middle school (6-8).
For more information, watch the National PTA video, download the Reflections Arts flyer, and/or read the rules and entry requirements for each category.
Submit entires to Joan Kaminer at jmegibs@me.com.
Entires must include one artwork file and one completed entry form. Please review rules and entry requirements for the relevant category to ensure compliance.
Artwork and entry form file name must be as follows:
1) for the actual entry artwork files:
Student lastname.firstname.school.
ex: Smith.Linda.HayfieldSS.
2) for the student entry forms:
student last name.first name.school.category.age division."entryform"
ex: Smith.Julie.Orange Hunt ES.literature.intermediate.
Student submissions are due no later than 11:59pm on November 6th. No late entries will be accepted.
Stenwood Spelling Bee
This year, 44 students participated in the Stenwood Spelling Bee. Last Thursday, 12 students competed in a final round using the same format as the Scripps National Spelling Bee. After 8 rounds of words from the study list, 5 students remained and were tested on words not studied ahead of time.
- Congratulations to our winner, Meghana Neelisetty, who spelled “bureaucrat” and “dendrochronology” on her way to victory.
- Congratulations to runner up, second-grader Ellie Zhao, who made it into the rounds of unstudied words, spelling both “lavish” and “decentralize”.
- 3rd place went to Vivaan Neelisetty, who midway through the bee succeeded in spelling “senescent”.
- Athena Malhabour and Advik Barnwal tied for 4th place.
Congratulations to all of the competitors in the final and to all 44 of our participants! Meghana Neelisetty will represent Stenwood in the Fairfax County Spelling Bee on March 17 at 2:00pm at Lake Braddock Secondary School. All are welcome to come watch and support her!
