New School Year
Welcome to another great year at Stenwood!
One of the things that makes Stenwood such a special place is the involvement of our families in class and school activities. Stenwood is a vibrant, caring, and active community and there are lots of ways for you to get involved - from volunteering in your child’s classroom to helping organize a PTA activity.
For those new to Stenwood, we invite you to our beginning of school year events (Kindergarten Playdate, New Family Welcome, Ice Cream Social). Feel free to reach out if you ever have questions.
A few things to know before school officially starts:
PTA Participation Waiver Form: This Form is required before participation in STENWOOD PTA Sponsored Activities. The Waiver is effective and will remain on file for the full school year (you only have to submit once per year). Please submit one form per child. Click here to review and complete your form today.
School Supplies: Parents are asked to purchase school supplies for their students. The school supply list for your child's grade can be found on the school website at Stenwood Supply Lists. You can purchase the items on your own and bring them to the classroom at Open House.
Our PTA held a School supply kit sale in the Spring where families were able to pre-order a kit from www.sproutsupplies.com. Kits are no longer available for pre-order.
- If you have already purchased a kit for your student, the kit will be shipped directly to the school. Your kit will be delivered to your child's classroom in August.
-
For any questions or assistance with your order, please contact Sprout customer service.
Fall Open House: Thursday, August 15th
At the Open House, your child will be able to meet their teachers and visit their classroom. All students receive a packet full of information to help you start the year off, including a calendar of the year's PTA events, afterschool enrichment classes, membership and spirit shirt order forms, volunteer opportunities and more. Review the packet carefully, so that you don't miss any events or deadlines that happen during the first weeks of school.
Spiritwear: Be sure to look for the Grade Level Spirit Shirt order form in coming soon to the PTA website and promoted in PTA communications. Each grade is assigned a class color that they will keep for their entire 7 years at Stenwood (so that shirt can be worn over multiple years). Students wear these shirts on special school days, including Spirit Days and School Field Day. The order form has a strict deadline (shirts are only ordered once each year), so don’t miss out!
Stenwood PTA also sells Spirit items, such as laptop decals, BEE Kind bands, and car magnets, on our website and maintains an online spiritwear store where you can purchase tshirts, hoodies and other Stenwood items all year long. There’s great stuff for the whole family to show their school pride.
PTA Communication: PTA leaders primarily communicate with parents by email through our weekly Wednesday e-newsletter. To receive these emails, make sure you have an account on this website. If you have any questions, contact communications@stenwoodpta.org. Other ways to keep up with PTA announcements and get more information is by attending PTA Meeting and checking our Stenwood Elementary PTA Facebook page. Our PTA Officers are always available for questions.
We look forward to seeing everyone at one of the Back-to-School events this year. On behalf of the PTA, welcome to our Stenwood community. We are looking forward to a wonderful year!

Where is Kiss & Ride?
Our most frequently asked question from New Stenwood Families!
Drop off and pick up typically happens at the Kiss and Ride circle behind the school (not the Gallows Road side where the front office is located). Please follow the flow marked by the blue arrows to help things move most efficiently.
After School Programs
School Age Child Care (SACC)
SACC provides fun, safe and educational care for children in kindergarten-sixth grade before school, after school and during school vacations in most Fairfax County public elementary schools. Children with special needs are fully included in all SACC centers. In addition, SACC programs at Key and Kilmer Centers serve youth, ages 5-21, with multiple types of disabilities. SACC offers a sliding fee scale for income eligible families.
The SACC program serves children five days a week, Monday-Friday. Before School - 7 a.m. until school begins. After School - End of school day until 6:15 p.m. SACC service begins when the children are dismissed from school.
For registration or more information, call 703-449-8989
Afterschool Enrichment
The Stenwood PTA is pleased to offer an after school Enrichment Program for our students. The PTA liaises between the school and a third-party provider to secure the class schedule and space. We also provide overall support to the program. If you have questions/feedback on the overall program, please contact enrichment@stenwoodpta.org.
Enrichment Matters contracts with independent Class Providers to teach the classes and manages registration. If you would like additional information or have questions about registration, a class, or a provider, please contact info@enrichmentmatters.com. Once a class begins, your main point of contact will be your Class provider/Instructor. This information is neither sponsored nor endorsed by the Fairfax County School Board, the Superintendent, or this school.
Registration announcements are sent on the PTA Wednesday Mail.
Kaizen Mixed Martial Arts After School Program
Kaizen's buses pick up kids from Stenwood Elementary during the school year, Monday-Friday at 3:25pm. Kids get snack time, martial arts class and are ready for pickup from 5:30 to 6:00 pm.
